About the Gallery
SPRÜTH MAGERS has expanded from its roots in Germany to become an international gallery dedicated to exhibiting groundbreaking modern and contemporary art. With galleries located in Berlin, London, and Los Angeles—as well as an office in Cologne and an outpost in Hong Kong—SPRÜTH MAGERS retains close ties with the studios and communities of the German and American artists who form the core of its roster. SPRÜTH MAGERS now works with over 60 artists and estates at all stages of their careers, from younger artists such as Cyprien Gaillard, Analia Saban, and Kaari Upson to influential figures like Reinhard Mucha, Frank Stella, Hanne Darboven, and Bernd and Hilla Becher.

The gallery’s history is linked to the extraordinary contemporary art scene that developed in Cologne in the early 1980s: in 1983, Monika Sprüth Gallery opened with an exhibition of paintings by Andreas Schulze, followed by exhibitions of Rosemarie Trockel and Peter Fischli/David Weiss; Philomene Magers’ Cologne gallery opened in 1992, with exhibitions of Ad Reinhardt, Robert Morris, and John Baldessari. After merging in 1998, SPRÜTH MAGERS expanded to London in 2003 and, in 2008, established its flagship space in a former dancehall in Berlin Mitte. In 2016, the gallery embarked on its latest chapter, opening a 14,000-square-foot space on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
