About the Gallery
Praise Shadows Art Gallery is a contemporary art program based in the Boston area with a focus on exceptional artists working in all artistic disciplines. Our worldview is informed by the notion that the artworld's untapped and unrecognized potential is worth cultivating, supporting, and championing. Since our founding in December 2020, the gallery has placed artworks by our artists in esteemed public collections, and our exhibitions have been covered widely in major international media outlets. Our work is grounded by partnering closely with artists to develop opportunities in traditional and emerging models of creativity and entrepreneurship — exhibitions, commissions, brand partnerships, new technologies, and original concepts that no one has ever tried before.

About the Presentation
Praise Shadows Art Gallery will present work by Helina Metaferia and Joiri Minaya in a duo presentation at Independent. Metaferia, an Ethiopian American artist based in New York City works with archives and stories of activism. A large-scale and interactive piece titled The Work (Meeting Table) is a participatory installation of a text engraved table sculpture, with an accompanying prompt. Participants are encouraged to answer the questions that the artist has been asking in her previous exhibitions: “What is your everyday revolution? How can you contribute to personal, social, or global change?” The resulting responses have been edited and etched on the surface of the table, and new responses are encouraged at the fair. In addition, Metaferia will showcase new collage and painting still life works that imagine interior lives of activists. Minaya, also a New York-based artist, uses motifs of opacity and camouflage to explore the tropical landscape and the bodies of the people from these lands. Rarely exhibited original paintings will be shown alongside her celebrated digital collages.
