About the Gallery
Jay Gorney founded Jay Gorney Modern Art in 1985, and was a partner in Gorney Bravin + Lee. He has been a director at Mitchell-Innes & Nash, and at Paula Cooper Gallery. He is currently an independent curator and advisor.

About the presentation
Jay Gorney will focus on recent drawings by Clifford Owens, whose interdisciplinary practice also encompasses photography, performance art, videos, and texts. Owens created a living archive of Black performance art in his critically acclaimed MoMA PS1 exhibition of 2011, Anthology, when he invited 26 artists to compose performance scores which he enacted. The body remains a reference point for his works on paper, whose marks inscribe varied movements. To create these drawings, Owens scrubs with ink and bleach, fingers ink, pierces the paper with pins and a dowel, and drags markers across the paper.
