About the Gallery
INVISIBLE-EXPORTS was founded by Risa Needleman and Benjamin Tischer in 2008 on the Lower East Side. Originally based in a small storefront space on Orchard Street, the gallery moved to a larger location on Eldridge Street in 2013. The gallery specializes in conceptual work and performance, emphasizing an interest in ideas over objects and an eccentric approach to art and cultural history. Working with a small roster of artists, including Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Vaginal Davis, Clifford Owens, Cary Leibowitz, and Scott Treleaven, the gallery supports challenging, provocative work, allowing its artists to experiment with non-traditional media and exhibition formats. From 2009 to 2013, INVISIBLE-EXPORTS ran the Artist of the Month Club, a limited edition-by-subscription project with commissioned work selected by prominent guest curators, including Lia Gangitano, Lauren Cornell, Karen Archey, and Gianni Jetzer.

Brigid Berlin was a bit player in the 1960s and ’70s art world, known for her brassy roles in Andy Warhol’s films like “Chelsea Girls” (1966). Like many people who hang around artists, Ms. Berlin is an artist too.

Handcrafted wooden torpedoes, suspended from the ceiling by wires, and souped up with American kitsch—a cow, a car, and camo—mark an intriguing detour, if not a new direction, in Marianne Vitale’s art.
