Alison Jacques

About the Presentation
Alison Jacques will present work by Bona de Mandiargues in a solo presentation at Independent 20th Century. Bona de Mandiargues (b. 1926, Rome - d. 2000, Paris) has been rediscovered through exhibiting at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024). Her work was recently included in the major group exhibition Surréalisme at the Philadelphia Museum of Art which travelled from Centre Pompidou, Paris (2024), Royal Museum of Fine Arts (2025), Fundación MAPFRE, Madrid (2025), to Hamburger Kunsthalle (2025). Alison Jacques represents the estate exclusively. 

To coincide with the presentation, Eiderdown Books will produce a publication on the artist, with text by Sibylle Pieyre de Mandiargues. The monograph will be debuted at Independent 20th Century and will include many of the works featured in our presentation. This will be the first time Eiderdown Books publishes a monograph on a non-British artist, thereby launching their international artists series. 

About the Gallery
For over 20 years, Alison Jacques has built a reputation for a curatorial approach to historically significant but sometimes under-acknowledged artists. The focus on intergenerational juxtapositions creates new contexts for the growing roster of international artists, both past and present.

The gallery has represented the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation since 1999, as well as the ground-breaking American photographer, Gordon Parks. Other estates include Pacita Abad, Maria Bartuszová, Lygia Clark, Nicola L., Donald Locke, Ana Mendieta, Roy Oxlade, Dorothea Tanning, Lenore Tawney and Hannah Wilke. Contemporary living artists include Sophie Barber, Gee's Bend Quiltmakers, Sky Glabush, Sheila Hicks, Ian Kiaer, Takuro Kuwata, Graham Little, Veronica Ryan, Sagarika Sundaram, Erika Verzutti and Alison Wilding.
